Returning to familiar territory isn’t always successful. The film didn't quite live up to what I was hoping for, though I did find myself enjoying the experience of watching it. I wouldn’t have guessed a movie like this would be better than most, and I believe Aubrey Plaza’s performance as Beth played a significant role in that. It wasn’t a pivotal moment in her career, but she was genuinely funny. The plot feels somewhat familiar compared to other films of its kind; however, several well-executed scenes helped elevate it. With a few more laughs and perhaps an unexpected turn, it likely would have performed much better commercially. There's nothing particularly original about the material, which I see as a drawback. It’s fairly simple to figure out what’s going on and anticipate the plot within the first fifteen minutes, but the latter half noticeably shifted its rhythm and tone. If you haven't explored many zombie movies, especially those that incorporate comedy, then you might consider it above average. The direction was respectable for a debut effort, and the cast provided solid support. Considering the budget, the production quality was quite impressive. It will probably frustrate viewers expecting something like 'Warm Bodies' or 'Shaun of the Dead,' but if you’re aware of its limitations going in, your disappointment might be reduced and you could end up having an enjoyable time. 6/10
