It resembles "Beverly Hill Cop" from 1984 superficially, yet the rapport between the new officers, “Riggs” (Mel Gibson) and “Murtaugh” (Danny Glover), possesses a considerably rougher, wittier, and funnier dynamic. The contrast between these two partners is striking. One carries baggage from his past, while the other is older and burdened by misfortune; however, this incongruity ultimately works well. Their partnership begins with the killing of a woman connected to a marine colleague of "Murtaugh’s" who served in Vietnam, which necessitates their collaboration. Soon enough, what feels like a contemporary Laurel and Hardy duo are achieving success, particularly when they uncover evidence pointing toward significant drug traffickers likely involved in her death. Furthermore, these criminals seem to have military backgrounds themselves, making them far from simple adversaries for the investigators, who tend towards chaotic situations. Gibson and Glover simply excel together; their portrayals of opposing personalities with warmth and energy feel effortless. There's a wealth of clever exchanges, considerable action sequences, and Gibson’s occasionally unhinged behavior is genuinely amusing. While there isn't any real sense of danger, and it certainly suggests a series of films to follow, if future installments can maintain this brisk and enjoyable experience, I say let's have them!
