I know I’m probably not supposed to enjoy this film, given what's currently considered acceptable taste, but apparently I should be watching a terrible TV show instead? Whatever. Let’s just put all that aside because this is Shane Black operating at his peak, delivering exactly the kind of tough-guy action movie we want. It’s genuinely enjoyable. The story involves two police officers, both Vietnam veterans, who are also incredibly interesting people teaming up to investigate a murder. The case escalates and expands until it becomes completely ridiculous and full of exciting action sequences. And when I say over-the-top, I mean it goes off the rails into pure fantasy territory—that’s just what great action movies do.
