The initial stages of this family-oriented film held promise, but it veered off course as it progressed. A man—played by Lucas Black—attempts to connect with his fiancée’s daughter and young son by taking them on a flight, only for the trip to devolve into an extended, uncomfortable trek toward the family cabin. "Legacy Peak," released in 2022, benefits from beautiful scenery and a sincere effort, but stumbles significantly around the middle point during a scene set at a ranger station; it never quite manages to regain its footing afterward. The performers aren't really to blame—the screenplay simply required more development, and then the cast would have needed additional time to build rapport so their interactions felt genuine. Ultimately, the suspenseful moments feel unpersuasive and awkward. I found myself eager for the film’s conclusion with roughly 25 to 30 minutes remaining. It's disappointing because there’s a substantial narrative about an individual confronting his past struggles and embracing the responsibilities of becoming a dependable father figure within his family's history, buried beneath the noticeable lack of polish. With increased resources and more time devoted to production, this could have been something worthwhile. My wife was able to overlook the film’s shortcomings and find some enjoyment in it; she didn't feel like her time had been entirely wasted. The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 35 minutes and was filmed in Loveland and Estes Park, Colorado, both located about an hour north of Denver—the latter being situated within the mountains and another twenty minutes further along.
