It’s telling that even a small number of Christians and Conservatives (aside from Ned Flanders) don't really like movies made by or for them—at least, not Christian films. There are some exceptions when it comes to Conservative-themed pictures; things like *Dirty Harry* and *Red Dawn* can be enjoyable. But with Christian Films... perhaps *The Passion of the Christ*, the *Bible* miniseries, or even *Mysteries of the Bible* if you consider that one… ...this is precisely why. Nicolas Cage was a significant star at one point, but now look at his career trajectory; he’s in a remake of *Left Behind*. I only agreed to watch it so I could criticize it—I anticipated effects that wouldn't appear modern even by the standards of the 1970s, and acting that felt both overly serious and awkwardly artificial (and that's before Cage is even considered). The audio quality... …well, surprisingly, the sound was a bit better than most Christian movies. Basically, it’s bad—you know it will be because these kinds of films prioritize conveying a message over providing entertainment. However, this film came out in 2014, and with Hollywood increasingly imposing quotas and demanding that creators fulfill requirements unrelated to the narrative itself, I think things might change soon. My feeling is that filmmakers who want to make good movies will start working within this genre, or turning towards smaller-scale productions outside of Hollywood, or wherever the money is available—as long as they’re allowed to create a film they actually want to make and not some sort of political statement. It was released in 2014, and like all other movies in its category, it's not good. But Hollywood is trying to change that by pushing talent away, and the people who financed *Left Behind* will eagerly welcome real talent onto their projects.
