I’m completely blown away! I don’t have a lot to add about *‘Layer Cake,’* and that’s mostly because it’s just one of those films that is so exceptionally good, it almost doesn’t need explaining. I'd heard people mention it over the years as possibly being Daniel Craig's finest work, but that was all I knew going in. What a movie! I realized it had become a favorite when I got chills as the credits started and I thought about it – that only happens with movies I really love. Regarding Craig, he’s fantastic here; it's certainly among the best performances I’ve seen from him, right up there with *‘Knives Out.’* And that’s saying something considering his other famous role as a spy. Michael Gambon was my favorite part, though. I already liked him a lot, but he’s even better here; his voice is just so recognizable. Besides Craig and Gambon, I honestly lost count of all the familiar faces that showed up *[insert Rick Dalton meme here]*. It's wild to see Tom Hardy in this film, especially since he has such a small part compared to the rest of the cast! I didn’t even recognize Sally Hawkins, even though I saw her name at the beginning. It’s simply brilliant entertainment! I enjoyed every moment, really and truly. It gave me exactly what I look for in a British gangster movie—so many others in this genre struggle to find that balance between crime and humor, which can make them awkward or dull, or both. This one completely hit the mark for me. A good score, an engaging story, and a great cast are all it takes for me to love a film; I’m afraid, I'm going to like your movie. It even surpasses (the excellent) *‘Stardust’* as my favorite Matthew Vaughn film.
