The possibility for an interesting examination of how a late-night program functions existed, but ultimately that chance wasn't realized to a significant degree. Emma Thompson’s portrayal of “Katherine Newbury” is competent, though her character isn’t particularly appealing and perhaps warrants the end of her aging show. Mindy Kaling embodies "Molly," the fresh face on the writing staff who possesses the skill to turn things around and restore her superior's standing, but she also fails to truly connect with viewers. The movie lacks humor entirely, and beyond a handful of moments featuring John Lithgow, it’s fairly forgettable. It might not be worthy of being called a worthwhile use of one's time.
