Sasha Nathwani’s first film is an impressive directorial debut, coming from an Iranian British filmmaker! I had the chance to see it at its premiere in Berlin on the 16th, where it's up for best first feature and screened as part of the generation 14+ program. What struck me most was how the movie takes you through a range of feelings; one moment you’re amused, the next you’re moved to tears. The music is also something special – it combines British and Iranian influences that really fit with the film's protagonist’s mixed background and help draw you into the narrative. There are moments where scenes feel like they could be music videos, which makes sense given Sasha’s experience directing music videos. The actors all work well together, and Shakira Dowling deserves recognition for her casting choices; Lydia Fleming is particularly noteworthy.
