The movie Last Night in Soho manages to be consistently absorbing from beginning to end, though Edgar Wright’s very intense approach to the final third is likely to spark disagreement among viewers. The story centers on characters—played exceptionally well by Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy—who undergo fascinating journeys with surprising developments that eventually align logically with the larger plot. The beautiful visuals and detailed production design combine to create a breathtaking depiction of 1960s London, which is made even more enjoyable thanks to Steve Price’s memorable score. Still, the ending feels rushed in its attempt to resolve everything, employing jarring editing, an accelerated tempo, and awkward shifts that detract from what came before. I appreciate Wright's dedication to his concept, but a similar level of control would have served the conclusion better. Rating: B+
