I felt like I’d encountered this narrative before, experiencing a sense of familiarity akin to déjà vu. However, my impression was that it would have been more compelling as a ninja story rather than one centered on knights. Upon examining the production team, I discovered the director was Japanese and had previously directed 'Goemon'. It turned out to be an adaptation of the classic Japanese tale, 'The Loyal 47 Ronin.' While I haven’t personally seen that original version, I am familiar with other adaptations, including Keanu Reeves' more recent '47 Ronon.' The film tells the story of a group of knights, led by Raiden, portrayed by Clive Owen. Following their lord’s unjust death at the hands of a deceitful minister within the legal system, it is presumed that the knights will seek retribution. However, this vengeance doesn't materialize, and over time, hope diminishes. A plot development introduces action sequences before the film concludes. While the story itself was good, adapting what would have been a ninja narrative into a knight’s tale didn’t quite create the desired intensity of seeking revenge. Ninja combat possesses a certain flair due to the choreography and costumes associated with ninjas; these elements felt out of place in this scenario. Conversely, the portrayal of knights remained consistent over decades, resulting in rather conventional medieval European sword fights. It could be described as realistic, but it lacks a certain cinematic quality. This wasn't necessarily a drawback, because the film primarily unfolds as a slow-paced drama. Those expecting a full-blown action movie might feel let down; I believe it’s still worth watching. The acting and production values were impressive, yet something prevents it from reaching the level of top-tier films. Considering how the story concluded, it seems likely that there will be a sequel. 6/10
