The story comes from a Russian novel with that same title. I initially thought it would be a dull historical drama. Knowing what the movie was about, I expected something similar to 'Moliere', but instead, I encountered a dark and unsettling narrative—a genuine surprise. I did find it enjoyable, although its moral compass is questionable. However, film can sometimes simply reflect reality, even within fictional settings; it’s likely such events have occurred without public knowledge. Katherine, also known as Lady Macbeth, is a young bride whose marriage isn't the idyllic picture most couples envision. Abandoned by her husband, she begins an affair with someone on the household staff to fulfill her desires. Predictably, this doesn’t end well when rumors surface. The subsequent fallout and how the story continues are revealed through several unexpected turns. I appreciated the straightforward settings; perhaps because it's a rural tale, but they felt just right. Florence Pugh has the makings of a major star, and I feel the same about the director—this is my first exposure to her work. She essentially carried the film and made it worthwhile. It wasn’t one of this year’s most hyped releases, but it's certainly worth seeing. A British story with a Russian flavor; it stands out among films of its kind. _7/10_
