It’s clear that considerable effort went into the production, and it manages to be enjoyable despite prioritizing aesthetics over narrative weight. *La La Land* is visually stunning, boasting beautiful costumes, cinematography, and dance sequences. The musical performances are also quite nice. While the storyline feels somewhat thin, this doesn't detract from its entertainment value; it certainly succeeds as an artistic endeavor. I would have appreciated a more substantial plot, instead of a song appearing frequently throughout. Ryan Gosling is among my current favorite actors, and he delivers a strong performance here. Emma Stone is also excellent, and could be considered the film’s biggest strength. I had been hoping to see more of her work, so knowing that she—along with Gosling—would be in it made me confident I'd enjoy the cast. They make an exceptionally good pair together. John Legend’s part feels a little awkward, though he is welcome to be seen. 4 stars. Someone who dislikes musicals might find it disappointing, but otherwise, it’s definitely worth seeing, even for those with only a passing interest in musicals like myself.
