The characters’ paths intersected as they pursued their ambitions. I don’t generally care for contemporary musicals. So I wasn’t anticipating anything particularly good or bad from this one. The movie started with a song that didn't impress me; I didn't connect with either the lyrics or the music. And again, modern settings just don't seem to work well with musical themes unless it’s fantasy or something like an Indian film. What I liked most was how the songs lessened as the movie went on. I did find myself engaged by the dramatic storyline and the final song sequence, which included a brief flashback. Up until that point, I thought it was just an average movie, but that scene shifted my opinion. Now I consider it to be pretty good, though I don’t know if it truly deserved six Oscars. The director is known for making musicals, although he hasn't made many; his career is still relatively young. I really enjoyed 'Whiplash'; it’s one of my all-time favorites. After that film came out, people were expecting this one to be even more successful. It seems like some viewers experienced something different with this movie, but not me, especially if you watch a lot of Indian films. The characters and the story itself were appealing, though the songs weren't. Gosling and Stone both did a good job; their chemistry was excellent. The storytelling flowed well until the very end, which reminded me of the ending of 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya', something I didn’t like but that felt different from what’s typical. Sometimes I prefer clichés over endings like this—just to shake things up a bit in terms of how stories are told. It was an enjoyable film overall; most people would probably love it. Some, like myself, might describe it as decent, but there will always be those who won't care for it at all. Still, it’s worth seeing. _7/10_
