A man who locates hidden Etruscan treasures using his talent for dowsing finds that his work brings both achievement and trouble when he associates with dubious individuals. This leads him to wander, searching for direction and a sense of ethics, through a series of unusual encounters and relationships—including a potential romantic partner (Carol Duarte) hiding two children, an elderly opera teacher (Isabella Rossellini) who swindles her pupils, and a group of amusing criminal companions. Alice Rohrwacher’s film presents a charming story with humor, oddities, vibrant personalities, suspense, and occasional dreamlike sequences, all unfolding against the backdrop of Italy. The movie does need some time to establish its rhythm; the initial portion might test your tolerance (some cuts would have been beneficial). However, once it gains momentum, it becomes an enjoyable experience, featuring bizarre comedy and cinematography that evokes Fellini, along with a production design recalling his style. Though lasting 2:10:00, shortening it—particularly at the beginning—would improve it; still, this appealing film offers a relaxed escape to enjoy while relaxing with coffee and cookies. Godere!
