It's hard to believe that over a decade has passed, and I still feel a strong sense of nostalgia for the original Kung Fu Panda—it truly felt like a remarkable film. The narrative, the action sequences, the conversations, the development of the characters, the conflict between Tai Lung and Shifu; every element was exceptional. There’s so much to praise about that first movie, but this one, Kung Fu Panda 4, is simply awful. This film is so disappointing that describing it as dull would be a kindness. A character named Zhen appears seemingly at random. The predictable scenes are repeated, there are pointless battles, characters wander aimlessly, and jokes (which fall completely flat) pop up without any context. I considered walking out after just twenty minutes, hoping against hope that something worthwhile might emerge, but my hopes were dashed throughout the entire experience. The direction felt weak, the dialogue was delivered poorly, and the attempts at humor became grating. There’s no connection between Po and Zhen, yet they're inexplicably willing to risk their lives for one another. The Zhen character herself proved to be both uninteresting and irritating. Like so many modern films where characters achieve success without any effort or hardship, they’ve created an idealized version of Zhen by designating her as the next dragon warrior. I was relieved when the credits finally rolled; it confirmed that I won't be subjecting myself to more installments in this series. If you have fond memories of the first Kung Fu Panda, avoid this one entirely. Protect and value those positive recollections—you’ve been cautioned. I would have rated it 1.5 out of 10, but because there wasn’t an option for that number, I chose 2/10 instead.
