It’s an extravagant movie reminiscent of 80s cinema, but it hasn't stood the test of time and has largely been overlooked. I generally enjoy fantasy films, however, this one combines elements that feel so disparate I can’t grasp how they were put together. There's a looming danger originating from outer space—a spaceship resembling a dark mountain crowned with an enormous egg—alongside soldiers wielding ray guns. Simultaneously, we are presented with what appears to be a medieval setting complete with castles, knights, princes, and princesses. It feels like Darth Vader chose to invade Earth during the time of King Arthur. The acting is adequate; the performers fulfill their roles without error, even though the material isn't particularly taxing or profound. The dialogue, for instance, sounds as if it were penned for a television movie rather than something intended for theatrical release. Despite featuring a young Liam Neeson, I hardly recognized him. From a technical standpoint, this is an undeniably costly production, evident in the quality of the sets and effects. However, expense doesn't necessarily equate to good taste; the film’s visuals are lavish, intricate, carefully planned, but also rather "kitsch." The special effects, while impressive for their era, have aged poorly and now seem dated. The soundtrack deserves mention as well—it is quite grand and stirring at times.
