I was experiencing this fantasy movie for the first time, and it’s interesting to note that Peter Yates directed it in 1983 with music by James Horner – which gave it a slight Star Trek feel. The initial battle sequence felt a bit strange, but things improved considerably once the young prince encountered his group of unconventional companions as they set out to rescue his beloved. It then became a distinct fantasy realm where I appreciated both the creature effects and some surprisingly good CGI, especially when creatures were destroyed; each death was marked by a burst of light and an alien-like being emerging from their heads. I recognized two performers: one was Ergo the Magnificent, who played a somewhat clumsy character transforming into various animals—I recall him as Charlie’s teacher in *Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory*, alongside Gene Wilder and a young Liam Neeson, who is now known for his role in *Taken*. The movie incorporated many elements; it felt like a mixed bag of fantasy, blending dark magic with sorcery and touches of mysticism. The final battle within the palace was confusing because the setting seemed to change constantly, although there were moments that felt slow-paced but ultimately everything resolved itself, and I was surprised I hadn’t seen this film earlier. It's an unusual movie, a bit offbeat, and I would suggest others who appreciate films like it give it a look. Overall, I found the experience enjoyable and consider it to be a cult classic. I don’t usually assign star ratings because I find them demeaning, but this website required it.
