I’ve been pretty lenient in my assessment of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, but even I can’t find anything good to say about this film. While *Venom* remains a high point, and I actually liked *Madame Web* (please don't criticize me for it), and even *Morbius*, which wasn’t great, didn’t really annoy me, *Kraven the Hunter* just left me feeling bored. Aaron Taylor-Johnson does provide a small amount of promise, but sitting through this is an endurance test—a very long 2 hours and 7 minutes (I can't explain why it runs that length). The opening moments aren’t anything special, but they are acceptable – at least, that was my impression. However, things quickly go downhill from the introduction of a young Calypso (and I have no complaints about Ariana DeBose; she does her best). The characters played by Russell Crowe and Alessandro Nivola also do their best, but are pretty irritating. Christopher Abbott’s character has some possibilities, although that countdown sequence became repetitive very quickly—almost as fast as 1... 2... never mind. And the parts involving Fred Hechinger's character are strange; it seems to make sense given his (poor) final scene, but the voice thing felt ridiculous throughout, especially when he was copying Crowe’s Nikolai. It's probably best for this character and franchise to simply end here.
