The film feels uneven. *Krampus* seemed to have promise given its darker subject matter, but ultimately it resorts to predictable family holiday conflict. The conclusion wasn’t particularly memorable either; not awful, just unremarkable. Adam Scott is acceptable as Tom, though Toni Collette, playing Sarah, gives a slightly better performance. Krista Stadler's portrayal of Omi stands out as the most compelling character, even if her story isn't explored to the extent I hoped it would be. David Koechner’s Howard feels like a weak addition, but Koechner’s acting is dependable. Among the younger cast members, Emjay Anthony (as Max) and Stefania LaVie Owen (as Beth) are adequate. There were aspects that did succeed. The suspenseful moments are well-crafted, even if their resolutions fall short of expectations. The creatures look visually striking, particularly the gingerbread men and the jack-in-the-box. The soundtrack incorporates Christmas music effectively. Overall, it wasn’t a bad movie, but I didn't find it very entertaining.
