This documentary, while not entirely evenhanded, remains compelling and moves along at a good clip, detailing the experiences of four Black transgender women working in the sex industry. Each woman’s story reveals what led her to this profession, why she continues to earn money through it, and what she might pursue if given a chance to break free from their recurring – and frequently perilous – circumstances. The storytelling is driven by the women themselves; despite varying approaches, they share insightful observations about sexuality within Black communities, often expressed with humor. Traditional notions of masculinity are challenged as intimate dynamics and power roles shift unexpectedly. Occasionally, their expressions become somewhat impassioned, and one segment could have benefited from trimming, but generally, it offers a revealing and candid look at people who aren't prone to self-pity but instead openly express their strengths. Brief appearances by others provide moments of respite from the intensity of the four women, who have much to share – regardless of whether viewers concur with their perspectives, it’s worthwhile to hear them out.
