Kristen Cui plays "Wen," who is gathering grasshoppers when she meets "Leonard" (Dave Bautista), a large and amiable man. However, the appearance of his companions sends her hurrying to the isolated cabin where her fathers, "Eric" (Jonathan Groff) and "Andrew" (Ben Aldridge), are relaxing outside. She's apprehensive, and they quickly find themselves trapped with four individuals who appear threatening and demand access. The cabin’s doors and windows prove no obstacle against their unusual weaponry, leading to the men being bound while anticipating a prejudiced attack. It turns out that these visitors don't intend them any direct harm; "Leonard" calmly explains a story about an impending apocalypse, warning that humanity’s survival hinges on this family making a difficult choice within twenty-four hours. Failure to do so will bring dire consequences for the family and also for those attempting to convince them. Bautista delivers a solid performance, as does Aldridge, and initially, the storyline is quite captivating. It presents a paradoxical situation—a question put to reasonable people who care about one another—that would challenge anyone. Unfortunately, M. Night Shyamalan struggles to maintain this initial momentum, and the narrative loses its energy from the midpoint onward. Groff’s presence feels minimal, and Rupert Grint isn't particularly noticeable either. I also felt that young Cui occupies a significant amount of screen time, which becomes tiresome. It feels like a brief story that might have been more effective if it were just an hour long with a more focused plot and less digression. Nevertheless, the film poses a question that I’m not sure I could resolve myself if faced with their circumstances—and overall, I did find it enjoyable to watch.
