King Richard presents a somewhat softened portrayal of a central person in the journeys of two exceptionally important tennis players. The screenplay initially aims for an uplifting narrative, although it does include some difficult scenes. From the beginning, the film establishes a warm and approachable perspective on Williams Sr., depicting him as resolute but also compassionate. While this is presented positively, those who criticize the idea that Black individuals might deserve more understanding will find little to challenge them here. There’s no question about the genuine intentions behind the movie. Smith delivers a performance that matches the character's sincerity, and the supporting actors portraying the family and coaches are equally strong. It is certainly an uplifting film; however, as with most films of this kind, it simply leaves you feeling good.
