King Richard has quickly become not just a top pick for me this year, but also among the strongest biographical films I’ve seen. While my own feelings about the story might resonate more strongly than they do for some viewers because of my personal interest in tennis, it's really the compelling narrative centered on a committed and caring father that will likely engage most audiences. Will Smith gives what is arguably one of his finest performances, and Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton are equally impressive. The film does an excellent job of portraying the sport, showing viewers the considerable sacrifices athletes must make to reach the highest level. The filmmaking itself is seamless, highlighting both the physical and mental demands of tennis with a notable amount of time devoted to training sessions and matches. However, it's the thoughtful writing that deals with themes like family, confidence, and raising children that truly stands out. I honestly can’t find anything negative to say about Reinaldo Marcus Green’s film. It absolutely deserves all the recognition it will undoubtedly get. Please don’t miss this one! Rating: A
