I’ve always thought Chuck Connors should have appeared in "Tarzan" earlier; he seemed to arrive on the scene about a decade late. While not exactly a gifted actor, he would have been fantastic portraying someone swinging through trees or wrestling around while scantily clad. To be honest, this western film is somewhat reminiscent of that idea. He plays “Clyde,” whose job it is to steal a large shipment of gold being guarded by the American army during the Civil War. Joined by a collection of rather odd characters and a deceitful Union captain named "Lynch" (Frank Wolff), we follow their adventures as they search for the treasure, with betrayals piling up alongside the killings. The whole thing feels low-budget, pleasant enough, and entirely predictable—and Connors seems to have an incredibly stiff jaw. Francesco De Masi’s score isn't anything like Ennio Morricone’s work, so there’s no unusual or inventive music to make this more engaging as it slowly makes its way toward a conclusion that doesn't really matter. The production values are quite basic, particularly the editing, but things might have been better if the actors, script, and plot were stronger. As it stands, though, it simply fills some time.
