I’m genuinely surprised by how much people seem to enjoy this film. Before writing anything down, I checked out what others had to say on Letterboxd—I often try to guess the average rating beforehand. For instance, with *‘Jack the Giant Slayer’*, I correctly predicted a 2.4, but for this one… it's at 3.5! It’s hard to express how taken aback I was. It’s happened before where my opinion differs from the general consensus, both in positive and negative ways, but I feel like this is the most extreme example so far. Simply put, I didn’t find much to appreciate about this 2011 release. There's one decent violent scene with a hammer and someone's head—though not in the way you might be thinking—but beyond that, it felt pretty disappointing. I wasn’t familiar with *‘Kill List’* until recently; I only chose to watch it because Neil Maskell was in it, as I really enjoyed his performance in television’s *'Utopia'* a while back – which shares a similar tone, just considerably more violent and better overall. The other actors didn't impress me much either, with the single violent moment being the only thing that kept me engaged. I could tell there was an interesting idea at its core (which I suppose others recognized), but it just didn’t click for me throughout. Now I’m baffled reading what other people have written; even the Wikipedia section on its reception is full of praise. Could Prime Video have accidentally shown me the wrong movie? I just realized this shares a director with 2016's *‘Free Fire’* (which I gave a 6/10), which illustrates my earlier point about sometimes having very different opinions than most people—something that doesn't happen often. Perhaps I simply don't care for Ben Wheatley films?
