It was unexpected to discover that three of the original cast members from the first movie, released in 2010, reappeared for this considerably weaker follow-up. Picking up where the previous story left off, "Red Mist" (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is now utilizing his father’s stolen wealth to build a team capable of confronting the increasing number of spandex-wearing vigilantes trying to reduce crime in their area. Without his father around this time, it's up to "Mindy" (Chloë Grace Moretz) to prepare our still somewhat clumsy hero (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) for the powerful enemies they are now encountering. Aaron Taylor-Johnson continues to look good without a shirt on; beyond that, there’s really not much worth mentioning about this film. It's standard filmmaking with meticulously planned and lengthy fight sequences featuring violence that has become noticeably more intense, culminating in an ending that is predictable. The unique elements that made the initial movie stand out are absent here; the dialogue and humor are mostly just crude, and Jim Carrey’s contribution feels minimal as things progress. One can only hope there won't be any further installments of "Kick-Ass"; this small series has clearly reached its limit and should be put away.
