I found the initial Kick Ass film to be a genuinely original concept, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. This installment, however, feels like the work of someone who thinks piling extreme silliness and crude language together will make for a good movie—and stretching that approach out for roughly 100 minutes. The majority of the film is unbelievably absurd. The first movie certainly had its silly moments, but they served to enhance the story rather than being the focus, as they are here. The main villain comes across as so artificial and foolish that he simply isn’t amusing. The characters presented as “superheroes” are equally laughable. Their costumes are just plain terrible; while it's true they're meant to be amateurs, it's still a significant flaw. Essentially, the entire movie rests on Hit-Girl’s shoulders, because she’s the only one who isn’t completely ridiculous. Without her, this would have been an utter failure. Sadly, the writer seemed determined to include vulgarity and added an excessive and frankly unpleasant scene involving vomiting that really detracted from the film's quality. The parts featuring Hit-Girl—excluding that aforementioned scene—and the action sequences are where nearly all of the movie’s entertainment value is found. The rest is either excessively silly or so disgusting it’s barely tolerable.
