While a group of young people were exploring the forest, they came across a large well hidden among the trees. Curious, they asked one of their guides to tell them a story—a tale of great importance that would transport them back centuries to the beginning of local deities in the ancient Bangra kingdom. The narrative recounts how two tribes lived together relatively peacefully, sharing the bounty of their beautiful wilderness until one encroached on the other’s land with devastating consequences. This sparked retaliation and quickly escalated into a conflict involving more than just trade goods like spices and coffee; it also involved aiding the Portuguese slave trade, which was supported by the violent and cowardly king “Kulshekar” (Gulshan Devalah). He used this situation to his advantage, seizing an opportunity to attack the jungle village and enslave its people after their leader “Berme” (Rishab Shetty) gained control of their port. This sets up a large-scale battle not only between these two men but also involving powerful daiva who are now granting both sides superhuman abilities. Considering how detailed the mythology is and how vibrant the production feels, it’s quite an exciting story that presents Shetty as a likable action hero with a good nature while also letting Devalah have some enjoyment playing a dark and imposing villain. Aside from a somewhat politically driven romantic subplot involving princess “Kanakavathi” (Rukmini Vasanth), everything is on a large scale, consistently impressive, blending fantasy and mythology seamlessly with plenty of explosions and fight sequences that incorporate CGI into the action to create an engaging and enjoyable adventure film. There are some songs—and they weren’t really for me—but nearly three hours passed quickly, and I did enjoy myself.
