A man working as a CIA operative finds himself needing to flee Afghanistan after his cover is compromised. Assuming one can overlook the implausibility of one person managing to evade pursuit from a large force, Kandahar proves to be a surprisingly effective film. Set against the backdrop of the recent American departure from Afghanistan, it effectively portrays the tense environment where various groups—the Taliban, I.S.I.S., and Iran—are locked in conflict with each other while sharing a shared resentment toward outside influence. It's certainly worth seeing, particularly for those who like movies centered around escaping combat zones.
