This film was genuinely enjoyable – a romance presented in its purest form – and the acting from the two main characters is certainly noteworthy. "Yad," played by Majd Marko (who bears an uncanny resemblance to a Jonas brother!), finds employment looking after an older woman, "Ans" (Jenny Arean), who has a grandson named "Joris" (Josha Stradowski). She seems eager to encourage their connection, and following a short period of getting to know each other... What’s appealing about this story is the absence of familial complications stemming from their relationship. While “Yoris” and his wealthy, widowed mother do face challenges, these are unrelated to his sexuality; "Yad" experiences some restlessness, but otherwise there's little psychological depth or emotional weight to complicate the straightforward narrative. A somewhat artificial conflict arises between the two men, which felt a bit superfluous, though it does help to center the film’s latter half as things begin to resolve. It's a story of young love, and I didn’t detect any hidden moral or political agendas; in many ways, it reflects the relaxed attitude that seems characteristic of Dutch culture. It was charming, and brought a smile to my face – which is saying something, considering how cynical I am!
