It was back in 1993 that Jurassic Park arrived, creating a huge franchise and impacting popular culture significantly. Now, though, we’re dealing with imitations of what used to be a clever and engaging story filled with fast-paced action. I think the point things started going wrong was when they began giving the Velociraptors personalities, making one of them practically someone's pal. We went along with it—more or less—and dove into Jurassic World in 2015 without much worry. While we wanted more dinosaur destruction, a pleasant cast led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Howard managed to draw us in, but the film was just average, another entry that felt like a temporary distraction. Of course, box office numbers matter, so the franchise continued with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom... The story goes back to Isla Nublar, where the dinosaurs and everything else are about to be wiped out by an enormous volcano. We see people arguing over whether or not to save a species that was once gone, while others have shady plans for making money. We're then taken along with familiar characters played by different actors going through predictable motions, and the script tries too hard to inject some kind of human connection that doesn’t quite work. There isn’t anything new or thrilling here; it’s a worn-out moneymaker that really needs to end itself. At least Bryce Howard has updated her shoes to something believable. It's inevitable that another movie will be made, and naturally it will make money, with myself and countless other Jurassic Park fans hoping for a return to the excitement of 1993. But that’s probably just wishful thinking, so maybe—just maybe—this should be enough, right? 5/10
