Juno is a young woman who lives life on her own terms and isn’t easily swayed. She isn't rude, but she has a strong sense of self and what she wants, even though she claims to still be figuring things out—and it's clear that she really does know herself. After encountering Bleeker, Juno finds herself pregnant. She considers an abortion, feeling it would be the sensible choice, but can’t bring herself to go through with it (she notes that the baby already has fingernails!). Instead, she locates a great couple to adopt the child—played by Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman. The film Juno deals with themes of youth, maturation, accepting responsibility, and making difficult choices. Think about what it would be like to be a pregnant student; you’d face judgment, wouldn't you? It happens, frequently. And consider how your parents might react, or how you yourself would cope with the decision of whether to have an abortion or pursue adoption. Juno handles everything that comes her way with a laid-back attitude. You just know she will work things out eventually; it’s obvious from the start. Juno is resilient and nothing can truly defeat her. Ellen Page delivers an outstanding performance as Juno, and the casting throughout the film is so precise it's almost comical. Each actor understands their character, and while the dialogue occasionally feels a bit artificial, it also seems remarkably genuine. The characters speak this way because they are self-assured and don’t care about other people’s opinions. If you haven’t already seen it, definitely watch Juno. You don't have to be a teenager to appreciate it; this is a film for everyone—male or female, young or old. It's worth your time.
