I didn’t get much enjoyment out of this adaptation of *The Jungle Book*. I will agree with what others have said, though – the visuals are quite striking in terms of color. I've never been overly enthusiastic about any version of this well-known story, even though I do appreciate the 1994 and 2016 films, and I also like the 1967 animated one. This film from 1942 is my least favorite so far. The way the story unfolded didn’t really capture my attention. The animal sequences look good – aside from any worries about their treatment – but what holds it back most, in my view, is how much emphasis it places on the human characters. I wasn't pleased with the performances of anyone who appeared on screen. Sabu (as Mowgli), Joseph Calleia (as Buldeo), and the rest didn’t do anything for me. There's also, as you could probably imagine, some questionable casting and makeup choices. It isn’t a bad film; it’s just one that feels slow-moving and doesn’t generate much excitement or interest – at least, not for me.
