The story relies heavily on coincidence in this unusual blend of comedy and drama, though that’s made up for by two very strong performances from Olivia Coleman and Charlie Reid. Reid portrays a young boy who objects when his unreliable dad plans to take money meant for charity, so he runs off with it inside a taxi he's stolen. What he doesn't know is that the cab already carries "Joy" (Coleman) and an infant baby. The resulting series of events are amusing as the boy comes to understand that the woman beside him – who wears a bright yellow outfit resembling an air-hostess for much of the movie – is attempting to give her baby to her sister for adoption, and he wonders if she might be afraid of responsibility. It’s a road trip film unlike others. The two characters work well together, and Reid displays a playful assurance that seems surprising given his age; there are several amusing instances where their roles switch. The dialogue is often sharp and witty, and the Irish landscape is pleasant to look at as they move from one problem to another while trying to evade the police and his father. Coleman performs adequately, showing good comedic timing, but Reid truly carries the film and it turned out to be considerably better than I initially thought it would be.
