The promotional material didn’t initially grab my attention. Thankfully, what followed proved the fault lay with whoever created those previews, because the movie itself is surprisingly good—among the better entries in its category. The story focuses on "Audrey" (Ashley Park), who needs to go to China to finalize a valuable business agreement if she wants to become a partner at her company. Against better judgment, she brings along her somewhat erratic friend "Lolo" (Sherry Cola), and predictably things devolve into chaos. For the most part, this is a sharply written comedy-drama with some lively performances from Park and Cola. Stephanie Hsu also shines as "Kat," a soap opera actress hiding several secrets, and Sabrina Wu’s “Dead Eye” frequently steals scenes—she delivers many of the film's funniest lines as the narrative progresses and the adopted "Audrey" searches for her birth mother. However, the movie falters in its later sections. It succumbs to predictable sentimentality, and the final twenty minutes feel noticeably slow. Despite this, it’s a genuinely enjoyable film that depicts four believable friends participating in drinking games, engaging in adult antics—including involving an entire basketball team—and attempting to develop their characters. I found myself really liking it.
