I’ll be honest, I didn't regularly read Jonah Hex when I was younger; those Western comics just weren't my thing. Because of that, I don’t have a basis for judging how faithfully the film adapts the original comic books. Perhaps it’s beneficial to approach this movie without that expectation, since I can’t be bothered by deviations from the source material. In fact, I’m pretty certain that the supernatural and steampunk elements in the film aren't completely consistent with what was in the comics originally. Despite the widespread negative reaction, I actually ended up enjoying this movie quite a bit. The plot is fairly standard comic book fare, but then again, it features a comic book character. I found the story to be pretty good, and there’s plenty of enjoyable action throughout. Josh Brolin does a solid job embodying the tough-guy persona of Jonah Hex, and John Malkovich, while maybe not fully capturing the image of the villainous Turnbull as he should have been, isn't doing a terrible job. Megan Fox is… well, she’s Megan Fox. She seems to fit the character and the movie adequately enough. From what I gather, the supernatural aspects aren't present in the original comics. It didn't really bother me; I’m not entirely convinced it added much, but it was acceptable. I get that people who are familiar with and fans of the comic series might be disappointed if the movie doesn't stick closely to it, but I don’t understand why so many others seem to dislike it either. It provided a pleasant hour and a half of action entertainment. Jonah Hex turned out to be the tough character you were hoping for. This film was a far better adaptation of a comic book than something like *Green Hornet*, where they made the hero into a clumsy fool. Personally, this movie definitely ranks in the upper portion of my enjoyment scale.
