This film fares significantly better than "John Wick - Paracetamol" (2019), though it remains disappointing. The protagonist, once again played by Keanu Reeves, embarks on a quest for vengeance, but first, the formidable "Marquis" (Bill Skarsgård) obtains full authority from the "High Table," prompting him to pursue his own agenda—which includes destroying a New York hotel and leaving “Winston” (Ian McShane) jobless. A needless and destructive consequence of these actions also causes some personal discomfort; when the "Marquis" shifts his focus to Osaka – seemingly the last place offering support for "Wick"—we anticipate an extended string of close-quarters combat reminiscent of video games. The action sequences largely appear designed around eliminating as many expendable, ill-equipped—yet heavily armed—opponents as possible, occasionally with a bit of mouth bleeding thrown in. A precisely tailored Kevlar®️ suit serves to deflect bullets, blades, and flames – practically everything – allowing the character to predictably endure overwhelming odds for over two and a half hours before reaching an ending that is somewhat unusual, incorporating a version of snakes and ladders set within a Sacre-Coeur-like environment, again against countless would-be assassins who seem incapable of hitting a target at close range. Skarsgård fails to inspire any real fear; he resembles a lackluster "James Bond" villain in an impeccably tailored suit. Laurence Fishburne’s appearance is limited, and the overall sense of danger feels comparable to that of "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). Reeves doesn't act so much as execute his role—and the excessive use of CGI, along with the complete absence of police or military forces in Japan, Paris, or New York to address the escalating destruction, simply made me want to yell “thwack” and "pow." There is a pleasant surprise at the conclusion, but it arrives after an excessively long wait, and frankly, I found myself growing weary. I’ve never been particularly fond of this series; its reliance on repetition and predictability is tiresome—and this installment unfortunately follows suit.
