It’s disappointing because the film doesn’t quite reach its potential and might even seem like an attempt to copy *Avatar*, yet I still ended up enjoying it to some degree. Taylor Kitsch is passable; I do appreciate his work, but the main character needed a stronger portrayal. The supporting cast, despite including familiar faces, don't really make much of an impression. Willem Dafoe does okay as Tars Tarkas, mostly because of his unique voice—nothing else about the part particularly shines. Samantha Morton, Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston are all pretty forgettable; it’s possibly not their responsibility. The story has everything needed to be truly excellent, but ultimately the movie doesn't capitalize on those opportunities. The conclusion feels incredibly hurried, even considering its length of 132 minutes. While the visuals are decent, that’s about one of the few things I liked—I honestly don’t have many positives to point out, and anything lower than a 7 out of 10 would feel too critical.
