Edgar Rice Burroughs created his John Carter books at a time when space travel was still largely in the realm of imagination. This movie prioritizes adventure and romance over scientific accuracy. This is the strongest adaptation of *A Princess of Mars*, the initial book in the series, that I’ve encountered. People who enjoy the John Carter novels are likely to find something worthwhile in this film. Although there are some changes, you'll encounter characters you know and see many recognizable elements from the story. It isn’t a particularly good movie, but it also doesn’t fall into the category of being bad.
