"Thomas" (Benno Fürmann) seems just fortunate to be alive, and his time in the army ended badly with an dishonorable discharge following events in Afghanistan. He’s now living in a house inherited from his mother but is completely broke. Then, seemingly by chance, he meets "Ali" (Hilmi Sözer). The way they meet is quite dramatic; Ali, clearly intoxicated, almost hits Thomas before driving his Range Rover dangerously close to the water's edge. Thankfully, no one is seriously hurt, although the police are already involved with this repeat offender and his license is likely in jeopardy. Soon after, Ali loses his driver’s license, and he quickly hires Thomas as a new driver to manage his business—a chain of 45 fast-food restaurants. This job also brings an unexpected perk: "Laura" (Nina Hoss), Ali's wife, finds herself attracted to Thomas. She isn't unhappy with her husband; in fact, she’s thankful to him, but he essentially paid off her debts, so their marriage is more of a transaction than a romance. When Ali travels back to Turkey for what he claims is business, it feels like something else entirely, and I wondered if the truth about this situation was about to surface. At first glance, it appears to be a standard love triangle—a rich husband, his young wife, and their attractive employee having an affair. However, there's more going on than that, and much of what makes the film work comes from Sözer’s performance as the clever but somewhat anxious businessman with secrets of his own; he truly stands out. The script uses very little dialogue, which allows the story to unfold in a way that occasionally feels hurried, although it doesn't lead to an ending anyone could have predicted. It even poses a seemingly simple question: if you need to make twelve deliveries, is it better to start with the closest one or the farthest?
