It feels almost fussy to say this, but Jackass Forever seems like one comeback too far. I realize that expecting consistency from this series is probably unrealistic, because it's a bit like trying to get something out of nothing, yet even judged on its own merits, the franchise simply doesn’t work without Bam Margera and Ryan Dunn – just as it wouldn’t be Jackass without Johnny Knoxville or Steve-O. The film does acknowledge this by not attempting replacements for key figures, but it tries to freshen things up with some new cast members (and honestly, it's clear that something *is* wrong, and the addition doesn’t really correct it). So now we have a second large person in the group, even though the original one is still present. Why include both? There was already someone filling that role; another isn't needed. Likewise, with Dave England, who’s known for his ability – if you can call it that – to relieve himself on command, what purpose does a Dave England copycat like Poopies serve? This all makes as much sense as having an extra person of short stature alongside Wee Man – and I realize ‘logic’ isn't part of the equation here, but just because the performers are foolish enough to inflict harm on themselves doesn’t mean that the audience, which includes me, is too unintelligent to feel patronized. Introducing new people this late in the series seems pointless, especially since JF clearly demonstrates that watching random people endure serious injuries isn't particularly amusing; it's actually funnier when it happens to individuals you’ve come to know and like over time – although even then, the appeal has likely diminished (and it certainly had a long and good run). There's much more of a feeling of having seen it all before than there is a sense of looking back fondly. All in all, I found Knoxville’s match with Sami Zayn at Wrestlemania 38 to be more enjoyable than Jackass Forever.
