Several individuals are targeted and killed by a sniper while simply walking down the street. Law enforcement swiftly arrests the shooter, who then requests they contact "Jack Reacher" (Tom Cruise), conveniently arriving in town at that moment. "Helen" (Rosamund Pike), the defense attorney, attempts to enlist Reacher’s assistance, but his primary goal is to ensure the defendant faces consequences. After the accused suffers a beating on a prison transport and falls into a coma, Reacher and Helen begin focusing intensely on what appears to be a straightforward legal matter, revealing layers of complexity along the way. The film feels protracted, requiring roughly an hour before it moves beyond introductions and explores the various grievances at play. Pike’s performance as the determined lawyer feels somewhat detached, but Cruise's energy elevates the narrative with action sequences, unexpected turns, and a resolution that evokes echoes of "Highlander" (1986). Jai Courtney remains stiff in his role, though he contributes adequately, as do Richard Jenkins and Werner Herzog, who appear sparingly but make an impact. This movie is another entry in Cruise’s filmography highlighting his action skills, settling comfortably within his existing body of work.
