You believe I’m heroic? That's incorrect. And if you possess any sense, that should be unsettling. Because I have absolutely nothing left to risk. The movie started with controversy; fans of the Lee Child books protested Tom Cruise being cast as the main character. People claimed he didn’t match the description and criticized the film, frequently without even watching it! It's quite a pleasant surprise, though, that since I don’t have any connection to the Child novels – I’ve never read anything by him – I experienced a genuinely classic thriller. Reacher is an impressive character, a former military operative who appears when and where he chooses. He takes on cases requiring resolution, using his abilities to solve the puzzles they present. In this installment, he joins forces with defense lawyer Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike) after an ex-army sniper seemingly at random kills five people and then mentions Reacher’s name during questioning. What follows is a series of unexpected developments, hidden clues revealed, and a complicated path to uncovering the truth. Cruise embodies Reacher perfectly; under Christopher McQuarrie's skillful direction and writing, there’s no question he portrays a calm, tough individual who appeals to women and inspires fear in criminals and law enforcement alike. This isn’t exaggerated or overdone—it's handled with subtlety. McQuarrie avoids transforming the film into an explosion of computer-generated effects designed solely for big theaters. The action sequences are well-planned, the violence intense but not excessive, and the story playfully misdirects viewers with unexpected plot twists and touches of humor. The movie is brought to a satisfying conclusion thanks to the strong supporting performances alongside Cruise, with Pike, Robert Duvall, Werner Herzog, and Jai Courtney all contributing significantly to this excellent combination of Cruise’s talent and McQuarrie's direction. Despite mixed reactions and reports, the film adaptation of Jack Reacher has surpassed those criticisms and become successful. Wonderful! 7.5/10
