This is an inventive horror-drama with a certain straightforwardness. I recently watched the director’s earlier film, his debut, and I was immediately taken by it. I didn’t imagine he would shift so dramatically from a lovely teen story to a disturbing horror movie. However, I enjoyed this one as well, which seems to confirm that his talent is genuine. Having seen both of his films, I've noticed the distinct style he uses—a very realistic, understated feel with a subtle musical backdrop that feels like his signature. I’ve often mentioned how modern horror movies rely too much on jarring noises and sound effects. But this film captures an atmosphere that truly reflects what goes on around us. The narrative unfolds smoothly, without any unexpected detours or complexities like you might find in the Amazon River. It doesn't even attempt to conceal the presence of a malevolent spirit, either from the audience or the characters within the story. This makes for a very simple story with captivating moments. It doesn’t feel like a low-budget horror film; this movie costing 2 million dollars holds its own against more elaborate productions. The writer/director's perspective was also quite fascinating—like when he described how IT could take a plane to pursue whoever it was after. The underlying theme felt fresh as well, though similar concepts have appeared before, this one is considerably better. Apparently, many viewers were surprised by the film and its reception, even the filmmakers themselves. I hope there will be a sequel, and that the same writer/director is involved. My concern is that lesser filmmakers might damage the original’s integrity in an attempt to capitalize on it. I wholeheartedly suggest this movie, particularly for adults, because of how the plot revolves around sexual encounters—though there's no explicit nudity. It would also be best experienced at night, if possible, by yourself. While I can’t promise it will frighten you, that’s simply the ideal way to watch any horror film. 8/10
