I don’t require films to have upbeat resolutions; in fact, I often find that somber endings elevate a movie. However, I do appreciate a sense of closure. _It Comes at Night_ failed to provide that. While I suspect writer/director Trey Edward Shults intended to create an atmosphere of intrigue, it didn't ultimately connect with me on a deeper level. The film felt focused more on reaching some ultimate point than on the experiences along the way, and we were left without one. Joel Edgerton delivers a strong performance, naturally, but it’s possible that the other actors could have been just as effective—we simply can't know because they weren’t afforded the chance. That really encapsulates what _It Comes at Night_ is all about. It felt like there was something truly valuable waiting to be revealed, but we were denied access to it. And when it comes to movies, if we don’t witness it, did it even happen? _Final rating:★★½ - There was a lot here that I liked, but it didn't quite coalesce._
