After three decades spent living in America, a man goes back to his family’s home in Taiwan at a time when pandemic restrictions are being put in place and tensions between Taiwan and China are escalating. It functions as a fairly conventional observational documentary, though it presents an unusual dynamic—Taiwan is actively promoting ideas of truth, freedom, and democracy toward its close neighbor from the small Kinmen Islands, which are located very near to mainland China. This only scratches the surface of the complicated situation involving China and Taiwan, along with America’s involvement in ensuring Taiwan's security—or potentially influencing its future, depending on how you see it. Running for just twenty minutes, it doesn't have enough time to fully explore what it wants to say, and while it is easy enough to watch, ultimately it doesn't provide much insight.
