It’s rare for a film to provoke such intense frustration, and this one continues to irritate me even when I encounter it on TV. The single word that best captures my impression of this movie would be: obnoxious. While I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about seeing it initially, I had hoped for some entertainment given my enjoyment of the earlier Iron Man installments. This is where my feelings toward Tony Stark/Iron Man (though RDJ remains excellent) began to sour. The narcissism that was once endearing in previous films transformed into a depiction of him as foolish, unpleasant, and fearful. There was an opportunity to create a truly formidable antagonist with the Mandarin, but instead, the movie replaced him with someone considerably less interesting than Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2. The attempts at humor felt artificial and irritating, and the narrative suffered from noticeable inconsistencies that pulled me out of the experience. I viewed Thor 2 sometime after this one came out, but the negative feeling left by this film was so strong that it made me reluctant to engage with any further movies in the shared universe. This is what ended my interest in the MCU.
