The narrative centers on women’s lives viewed through the eyes of men. Iraiva signifies God, Iraivi denotes Goddess, but the appropriate term should have been Iraivigal, meaning Goddesses. The film introduces three women and their aspirations for the future—that's how it begins; however, the rest of the movie unfolds a different story altogether. Within a world dominated by men, this explores the roles of women and their hardships over its nearly two-and-a-half-hour duration. As the title suggests, the film is about women, but from the viewpoint of the men who impact their lives. Through it all, I realized that Indian women have yet to fully gain independence. India has granted equal rights to women, but they haven’t been able to seize those opportunities because something seems to be holding them back—perhaps societal norms or men themselves. The film touches on some realities inspired by Sujatha's book, 'Jannal Malar'. I am again frustrated with the film's length, which feels excessive for an Indian movie. Despite that, it’s a skillfully constructed story full of unexpected developments until the very end—it has unpredictable elements. The script was its strongest asset, followed by the actors’ performances and decent production quality. As I mentioned earlier about the runtime, I also disliked the unnecessary songs and dance numbers. Those music video sequences disrupted the flow of the storytelling. They might be acceptable to an Indian audience, but for international viewers, they are quite irritating. This is similar to what happened in the director’s previous film 'Jigarthanda'. While I consider 'Pizza' his finest work, all three of his films, including this one, represent a significant achievement that surpasses the average standard of Indian cinema. Regarding the cast, it’s good to see SJ Surya back on screen delivering one of his best performances. Vijay Sethu was excellent in his role; his character was truly outstanding, as was Bobby Simha's. Among the actresses, Anjali stood out, matching the quality of her previous acclaimed films. It is a standout multi-starrer featuring both established and newer actors from Kollywood. Films like this remind me why I used to be a regular viewer of Tamil movies. Despite some aspects I didn’t care for, I enjoyed watching it, so I definitely recommend it. 8.5/10
