The film felt longer than necessary; a runtime of 90 minutes might have been more suitable. I appreciate the concept behind *'Into the Woods'*, which combines several well-known fairy tales, including *'Cinderella'*, *'Little Red Riding Hood'*, *'Jack and the Beanstalk'*, and *'Rapunzel'*. I also found the musical numbers to be quite pleasant during the first twenty or thirty minutes, as they had a lively feel. However, around the middle of the movie, the story really begins to drag. The initial appeal of the idea fades away because it becomes apparent that there isn’t much more story to explore—even though a significant portion of the 125-minute length remains. I will say that the film's visuals are appealing. I also thought the actors were well chosen. James Corden tends to divide people online, but I have always enjoyed his work, having followed his career since he gained recognition through UK television’s *'Gavin & Stacey'*. Emily Blunt and Johnny Depp are among my favorite performers, while Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick deliver strong performances as well. Chris Pine is someone I generally like, though his performance here isn't quite on par. Ultimately, I was almost entertained by this film, but it ultimately fell short because of its slow pacing and a plot that felt incomplete.
