The movie’s promotional image pretty much tells you what it is: if visual appeal is your main concern, Paul Walker and Jessica Alba won't let you down for at least the first portion of the film. Things take a turn when they are required to wear clothes and attempt some acting within this unlikely combination of drug trafficking and underwater salvage operations. It’s the latter that leads these characters—along with Bryce (Scott Caan) and Amanda (Ashley Scott)—to believe they can strike it rich. The problem is, you can't simply retrieve a large amount of treasure from the ocean floor and then sail into port without attracting attention. How does this relate to drugs? We learn early on that an airplane has crashed, carrying a significant quantity of cocaine. Predictably, they discover it. Initially uninterested in the drugs, they eventually decide to sell them, which puts them at odds with Bates (Josh Brolin), who wants everything for himself. As things move along faster, there's a flurry of action-packed events both above and below the surface of the water. It’s not terrible; actually, the final twenty minutes—despite some rather noticeable computer-generated imagery—are quite thrilling, giving everyone an opportunity to get soaked and into trouble. You really need to be able to distinguish between a Tiger shark and a tuna fish. Brolin is a fairly convincing villain, Caan – well, he seems incapable of much, and the two stars on the poster demonstrate that attractive people still have a spot in movies.
